We recently came to the end of DPTC July 2013 training and we praise God for giving us yet another opportunity for our pastors to be equipped for effective ministry.
In the first week of training, we expected Eric Miller to come and teach manuscript bible study but when he could not come because of health issues, I took over the class, teaching the Gospel of Mark. By the end of the week Pastors were surprised to learn how they could dig out the truth from the word of God using the inductive method. The acquired skills will help them study the Bible and prepare sermons, even though they lack other resources that are available to pastors elsewhere.
On Sunday we all traveled to Kitengela to visit the church of our pastor Anothony Ngaruiya. We got to experience a wonderful worship service, lunch, and then the pastors went out to conduct an open-air service on the streets of the city. Several came to know Christ as the pastors worshipped and preached the gospel to those traveling along the road.
In the second week of learning, the Pastors took two classes; The Doctrine of God taught by Peter and Church History taught by Mike Mwaka. As usual, the term came to an end with Pastors yearning for more and at the same time eager to go back to their ministries to put into practice all that they learnt.
We are so excited about the work that God is doing through Divine Providence and are so thankful for all of your prayers and support as we continue to train pastors to share the gospel of Christ across Kenya!
Director of Divine Providence Training Center
Our pastors at Divine Providence Training Center come to school for two weeks once a quarter for two years. The time in between each session is used for application and homework, so that all the learning can have time to really sink in and become and reality in the way that they live and do ministry. Also, if the resources are available, we like to offer additional retreats and seminars.
For the past two summers, we have had the privilege of working with Jennifer Brommet of True Identity Ministries where she came to host retreats that led groups of women to discover their inner beauty in Christ and how to free themselves from the lies the world will tell them. Immediately after the retreats were finished, Jennifer had request after request from men in the towns she visited. They all asked, “Is there a True Identity for men?” Seeing the desire and need for this kind of training for men, Jennifer’s husband, Remco Brommet began praying and developing a curriculum to help reveal to the men their true identity in Christ and free them from the lies that are affecting their leadership in their communities, churches, and families.
In June, we had the privilege at Camp Chemi Chemi to host two back-to-back True Men Retreats, as well as a True Identity retreats, led by Jennifer and Remco, and they were a huge success. The two-day retreats were a time of revelation, deep soul searching and renewal of scriptural promises as Jennifer and Remco led over 45 pastors through the True Identity material. Men were overwhelmed with the love of their Savior and His purpose for them as heads of their families and leaders in their communities. This message is very much needed in Kenya where females in churches far outweigh the males and where father-son traditions and teaching are rapidly declining due to urbanization. To be able to understand the love of the Father for his sons and the biblical view on marriage, parenting, and servant leadership had our pastors excited and refueled. Now that they have been through the training, they can take the True Identity message to their communities and churches, carrying on the True Identity goal to “train more trainers” so that this message of love and truth can spread across the nation of Kenya and the world.
Infrastructure on the property has been completed: well, pump & water lines; electrical power; septic system; security; lighted walkways.
Divine Providence Training Center would like to thank all our donors for their generosity during the Christmas Season. Such extraordinarily generous Christmas gifts will live throughout 2012 and even into eternity. Your gift will bless and train pastors, reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ, provide a safe school for learning, and teach people how to garden and learn micro-enterprise; your gift will move DPTC toward becoming self-sustaining in the next few years; your gift will make an eternal difference.
Martha and her husband Paul have grown their church to include over 100 youth worshiping weekly. Many of these youth were at one time street children. The youth lead the praise band and are mobilizing local youth in the schools to learn more about Jesus. Their testimonies are a witness to the Power of the Gospel to transform lives. They additionally are using materials for Sunday school that members of RUMC sent on a regular basis and want more.
